One of my favorite autumn/winter wardrobe staples is the cable knit sweater.  Recognizable by the knitted cable pattern resembling braided or twisted ropes, typically found on the chest, these popular sweaters are often made to be both fashionable and durable making them an appealing option.  Originating in Ireland, the sweaters were traditionally off-white and made of unscoured wool allowing them to retain the natural oil secreted by sheep, lanolin, and essentially making them water proof.  A water resistant wool sweater? Sign me up!  Although the cable knit sweaters of today are no longer water resistant (lanolin is now removed from the wool), the sweaters are made to be durable and well insulated, making these colder month favorites a wardrobe staple.  Below are a few cable knit sweaters I’ve fallen in love with this season.
