The Basics :: Simple Everyday Makeup

I love makeup but I’ve never been brave enough to experiment beyond my comfort zone.  In other words, my idea of a fully made-up face involves a novice cat eye, a few coats of mascara, concealer and on very rare occasions, a light application of foundation with some color added to my cheeks.  As my love of makeup grows (seriously, I’ve become a bit of a nut about it), I’ve become more committed to learning to perfect the art of a fully painted face.  Until the day I can proudly walk out of the house with a smokey eye and red lip, confident that I don’t resemble a clown, I will continue to rely on these products to achieve a subtle and chic everyday makeup look.

1) Concealer: For low-key makeup days, I prefer to brighten my face with a light application of concealer.  The MAC Mineralize Concealer ($21) does the job well with it’s light and creamy formula.  This product produces a natural finish that brightens the eye area providing a fresh and youthful appearance.  It’s shown here in NC15 and NW50 to exemplify the range in shade options.  Keep in mind that this concealer is not meant for covering spots or acne scars.  If you’re in need of a bit more coverage, I’d suggest the  NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer ($29).

2) Mascara: My favorite mascara of the moment has to be the Maybelline  Volum’ Express The Colossal Washable Mascara ($6.99) in glam black.  This inexpensive, high-street mascara gives my lashes the extra “oomph” they need without looking over done.    CLICK HERE to check out my secret for making this minimal everyday item chic and fresh by adding a hint of color.

3) Eyeliner: Although I’m typically not a fan of waterproof eye makeup (you wouldn’t be either if you’ve wasted hours of your life trying to scrub off your eye makeup only to discover it just as it was the next morning), I absolutely love the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner ($20) in black.  The name says it all.  This easy to use high-end liquid liner really does stay all day but what I really love about it is that I can easily remove it with nearly any eye makeup remover!

4) Multipurpose: NARS The Multiple in 413 BLKR ($39) is a beautiful addition to the highly sought after product named after the NARS flagship boutique in New York located at 413 Bleecker Street.  This great multi-purpose product is perfect for low-key makeup days (let’s be frank here, it’s great for lazy gals like me).  The creamy and sheer formula glides on effortlessly creating a beautiful shimmering effect and can be used on eyes, lips, cheeks and even the body! 413 BLKR is a beautiful color that looks great on all skin tones not to mention the lovely burgundy color is perfect for the fall.  If BLKR is a little too daring for you, try Riviera which is perfect for those looking for a more subtle pop of color.
