I’ve never been a huge fan of Valentine’s Day and there’s no particular reason why. I never really cared much for the carnations sold in high school or raced to get dinner reservations for that one night of the year. I’ve always much preferred a simple evening with the one I love. Making a nice dinner accompanied by a lovely bottle of Argentinean Malbec ending the evening with a nice film. If a gift is given, I prefer it be for the home. A lovely vase of fresh peonies or perhaps a nicely scented candle such as the Jo Malone Peony and Blue Suede Home Candle. This way, the focus is one the individual with whom the day is celebrated and not the day or the events surrounding it. I must admit that I do like the idea of setting aside a special day to celebrate your love and for many, it’s a great excuse to get out of the house and enjoy some quality time together. Maybe I’ll change my tune someday but until then, I just prefer a low-key and simple celebration.
Let me know how you prefer to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the one you love.
