As I mentioned in my earlier post (found here), although fall has not officially ended and winter begun, I have started the process of gathering and preparing my winter essentials. Of these, one of the most important is the winter coat. When it comes to winter coats, I believe in the investment piece.
Definition: In the context of fashion, an investment piece is an article of clothing that is of a high quality and typically accompanied by a high price point. These items are not trends, which develop rather quickly and change often, but classics that make a lasting presence in one’s wardrobe.
I firmly believe that the initial investment saves both time and money in the long run. For example, investing in a well made wool coat, will keep me warm for many winters to come. On the contrary, an ill-made and inexpensive coat may last one, maybe two winters but will likely need to be replaced several times over resulting in time spent searching for a new coat and additional funds spent.
What should you invest in? Splurge on a quality leather jacket or a classic and durable handbag (such as the Chanel Classic Flap Bag in the featured image) while saving on trendy items. Though you’re unlikely to recoup your investment, the amount of wear/use you receive from these pieces make them well worth the investment.
