Early Morning Lattes and Happy Hour Beverages

Sunday was a very special someone’s birthday. In celebration, we went out to dinner where food and drinks were ordered.  With my desire to maintain a healthy weight and stay fit, I’ve committed to being more mindful about my food and drink intake. This means that I’ve become much more aware of the type of food available at the restaurants I visit and how my drink order would impact my desire to stay fit.

I must admit that it has become habitual for me to have a beverage with each meal.  While scanning the drink menu Sunday night, I realized that one of my biggest obstacles in my attempt to maintain a healthy weight has been the mindless consumption of calorie rich beverages.  Everything from my favorite beers and cocktails to delicious frappes and macchiatos contribute to an unnecessary addition of calories each day.  And while I’ve been very careful to introduce a generous amount of water throughout my day (I make it a little interesting with lemon), any efforts to maintain a healthy caloric intake are easily negated when drinks are involved.  It’s so easy to order a lager, mojito or latte without recognizing that they could very well be just as unhealthy as ordering a soft drink.  With this realization in mind, I’ve decided that the simplest way for me to combat this issue is to limit the amount of drinks I consume each week.  Limiting my early morning lattes and happy hour beverages to one per week will not only save my waistline but budget as well.

I did not drink all of those glasses of wine in the featured post but I did drink all of that beer.
