FallWinter Skincare - Facial OilsIt’s officially fall, and with the decreasing temps outside comes an adjustment to my skincare routine.  Since I prefer to keep my skin care regime quite simple, the changes I make from my spring/summer routine to fall/winter are subtle.  The most important change I make is the addition of nourishing oils.  I’m a big proponent of adding oils such as coconut, olive (extra virgin), avocado, argan, and my personal favorite, jojoba oil to any skin, body or hair care regime.  For the fall/winter seasons, I add a light layer of jojoba oil to seal in the moisture after cleansing and moisturizing my skin.  If you’re a fan of beauty oils from skin care companies, then I highly recommend trying Boscia’s Tsubaki Beauty Oil.  I received a sample of this several months ago and loved the way it made my skin feel.  This light oil leaves my skin feeling smoother, nourished and with a healthy glow.  It’s the perfect facial oil for the new season.

Happy Friday everyone! Several weeks ago, I wrote a post highlighting a few items I picked up from Target (you can read the post here).  Among my purchases was the Yes To Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar Soap was intended to be my only purchase.  I recently began using the soap and have found that it works quite well for my normal to dry skin.

After 2 weeks of use, I’ve noticed the difference the soap has made in my skin.  I’ve battled with congested pores around my nose and chin area since adolescence.  While it isn’t noticeable to others, it’s something I’ve always been mindful of and have tried to rid my skin of.  Within I week of using this soap, I noticed that the congestion had reduced slightly.  While it hasn’t completely cleared my congestion, the soap does a great job of gently cleansing my skin without stripping it of moisture.

Though I do quite like the effects the soap has had on my skin, I’m still on the fence about repurchasing the item for a few reasons.  First, while the soap isn’t too drying, I find that I have to use it sparingly.  I often favor a double cleanse on days that I wear makeup yet this leaves my skin feeling a little too tight.  Second, the soap is gently scented and while the scent isn’t off-putting (it’s floral in nature), I find the scent a bit disconcerting for a charcoal facial cleanser.  Lastly, after doing a bit more research, I found that the soap contains salicylic acid.  Though some respond quite well to salicylic acid, I’ve avoided products with this ingredient as I find that using it too often can dry and dull my skin.  Overall, I would recommend the Yes To Tomatoes Activated Charcoal Bar Soap for the effects it has had on my skin.

Thank you so much for reading everyone!  I hope you all have a beautiful weekend.

Happy Monday everyone! On Friday’s post, I talked about my first experience using Sephora’s beauty services (read the post here).  After the appointment, I realized that the associate mostly used Buxom products to complete the look I requested.  Before the appointment, I was intent on picking up a few products I’ve been eyeing for sometime.  The list included Urban Decay’s blush in Quickie, Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz and a few Hourglass brushes.  I neglected everything I’d originally picked up after seeing what the associate did with the products she selected.

Buxom Cosmetics - A TUESDAY IN APRIL

I was most excited about the Buxom shadows.  What interested me the most about them was the ability to build my own palette.  As an African-American woman with dark complexion, I find that many palettes with pre-selected shades are just not dark skin friendly.  Investing in a pre-made palette often means paying full price for several shadows but only being able to use half the shadows (most of the colors are far too light for my dark skin tone).  Buxom’s new customizable shadow bar allows customers to choose from a selection of primer infused shadows.  There are 39 shadows to choose from (there are also pre-made palettes available) and is a great value at $40 ($85 value).  With this, I’m able to select shadows that work best for my skin tone ensuring that I’ll use all of the products purchased, not wasting product or money.  I also enjoy the ability to replace or refill the shadows as I choose.

Sephora Beauty 'Makeover'

The Products

With my gift card, I was able to purchase six Buxom eyeshadows, a blush and lipstick.

Buxom Cosmetics - Eyeshadows + Blush
Buxom - Eyes, Cheeks and Lips
Gimme Gorgeous (Matte Camel)
Big Spender (Matte Sable)
Gold Status (Metallic Brass)
Filthy Rich (Matte Chestnut)
Haute Couture (Metallic Java)
LBD (Matte Black)
Blush: Shangri-La-La (Toasted Berry)
Full-On Lipstick: Tokyo (Muted Cranberry)

I’ve discussed Buxom Cosmetics on my blog once before when I mentioned how much I love their Amplified Lash Mascara.  I highly recommend these products and Buxom as a brand.  The shadows, blush and lipstick are beautifully pigmented and last all day.  They would make a great addition to any beauty bag.

Thank you so much for reading! Be sure to check back on Wednesday for another post here on A TUESDAY IN APRIL.
