Brand Focus – The Madewell Girl

Though I’m typically not one for black Friday shopping, and I’m certainly not a proponent of running to the stores on Thanksgiving Day (though I don’t judge those who enjoy doing so), I’ve decided to at least experience the event once. So, this year, I will join the masses and venture out to the stores bright and early the Friday after Thanksgiving. In order to make the most of my experience and shop efficiently, I decided to do a little pre-shopping to get an idea of the items in store and get the inside scoop from sales associates. This is what lead me to discover a little gem known as Madewell.

Madewell is a subsidiary of J. Crew, a consumer favorite with a focus on classic pieces geared toward an older clientele. While I’ve known of the brand for quite some time, it was always out of reach as most of my interaction was made online. The brand was founded in 2006 and has quickly become a favorite of its target audience. Though the Madewell aesthetic is very reminiscent of its parent brand being simple, classic and chic, the style and design of the garments found here have a more youthful vibe. Madewell pieces are meant to be more casual than J. Crew with sleek jeans, cozy sweaters, easy layers and modern accessories and at a lower price point than its parent company. Many of their items are timeless and from my observation, attract a varied clientele (during my last visit, I was shopping amongst teens, ladies in their mid 50’s asking for fashion advice and every age in-between). I’ve found myself very drawn to the easy-going vibe of the Madewell brand. I’m particularly impressed by the quality of the items and the price point (esp. when there’s a sale!). I think it’s safe to say that I’ll be a fan of this brand for some time to come.
