One of my favorite, largely inexpensive beauty must haves are cleansing facial wipes. Facial wipes have become a staple of most skin care enthusiast and beauty lovers for their ability to effortlessly remove makeup while gently cleansing the skin.  They’re perfect for those late nights when the only thing you want to do in crawl under your warm comforter but cannot get over the thought of what could become of your skin if you were to sleep with your makeup on.  Clogged Pores and raccoon eyes anyone?  My favorites are the Yes To line of facial wipes.  Not only are these wipes at least 95% natural, they are cruelty-free and don’t contain any petroleum, SLS or parabens!  Though I prefer to reach for natural products whenever possible, there are several wipes on the market that deserve a spot on your beauty shelf (or cabinet).  Here are a few ideas for making the most of your facial cleansing wipes:

1) Refresh And Brighten After Work: Grabbing a happy hour drink with your co-workers is a great way to unwind after a long day at work.  Keeping a stash of the Yes To Grapefruit Brightening Facial Wipes or these Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Towelettes in Pink Grapefruit in your work bag are a great way to freshen up before a night out.  These affordable textured wipes gently exfoliate and are packed with citric acid to brighten your skin leaving your skin soft and radiant.  At $6 for a pack of 30, you can easily stash these affordable wipes in your chic work back or on your desk for a quick refresh.

2) Prevent Breakouts Post Workout: It is no secret that regular exercise is an integral part of one’s overall health and well-being.  For the beauty loving gym-goer, a midday workout can wreak havoc on your skin if not cared for properly.  Prevent clogged pores by removing your morning makeup and wiping away pore clogging perspiration by using blemish fighting wipes such as the Yes to Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Facial Wipes.  At $6 for 25 wipes, these salicylic acid and tomatoes infused wipes will fight blemishes while aiding in controlling oil production.  They are a great on the go deal and would be an excellent addition to your gym bag!

3) Remove The Toughest Layers Of Makeup: Although I’m not one to walk out of my home in a fully painted face on the daily (in other words, I don’t wear makeup everyday), I occasionally do go for the whole shebang applying every last possible bit of makeup you can think of.  On these occasions, it is especially important that I remove every last layer of makeup applied before hitting the hay.  That is where these MAC Cosmetics Wipes ($20 for 45 wipes) come into play.  Although I don’t reach for them as often these days (see beauty tip below for why), I’ve found that these wipes have been able to remove even the most stubborn of eye liners (here’s looking at you Stila).  You can also try these Josie Maran Bare Naked Wipes ($12 for 30) if you’d prefer all natural wipes.

4) Gentle Cleanse Before Applying Makeup: I occasionally find myself wanting to apply makeup midday while out and about but can’t make it home to gently cleanse my skin.  Since applying your makeup to a face clear of dirt, impurities and excess oil ensures a smoother finish, I reach for my Yes To Cucumbers Facial Wipes ($9 for 30 wipes) to provide a clean and fresh canvas ready for makeup.  These wipes gently yet effectively remove any trace of dirt and excess oil without leaving my skin stripped and dry.  The Burt’s Bees Cucumber & Sage Towelette ($6 for 30 wipes) or Sephora’s Express Cleansing Wipes ($9 for 25 wipes ) are great for this purpose.

5) Gentle Exfoliation: I’m sure you’re well aware of the importance of exfoliation in your beauty regimen after ready my 5 Principals of Skin Care post.  Well have you ever considered using a cleansing wipe for this purpose? Using a facial cleansing wipe to gently exfoliate on occasion (I would not recommend this to be your regular method for exfoliating) can provide both a mechanical and chemical source of exfoliation as many of these wipes, such as the Burt’s Bees Exfoliating Facial Cleansing Towelettes with Peach & Willow Bark ($6 for 25 wipes) are infused with naturally sourced acid to gently slough away those dead skin cells.

* Beauty Tip: Although I love the MAC wipes, I still prefer to use all natural products whenever possible.  If you’re like me and find that the other wipes mentioned don’t quite do the job, try adding a quarter sized amount of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to your wipes for waterproof and other tough to remove makeup, .  The oil can easily break down even the toughest liner you have.  If you’re afraid that EVOO may be too heavy or could possibly clog your pores, try cold pressed coconut oil which is known to be non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores).
